As long as I feel that I am a good fit for the person, I am happy to work with them. Should I feel that a different therapist or service would be a better option, I will refer or signpost to elsewhere.
Integrative counselling indicates that the therapist has trained on an integrative course, in which the training is grounded in one particular model but other models have also been studied and worked with. My work in grounded in person-centred therapy but I also utilise other models, such as CBT and psychodynamic, should I feel that this approaches would benefit my client.
It is a research backed model which involves tapping or gently holding different points on the body. This can help to process thoughts, emotions and events. EFT is a useful tool to avoid retraumatising clients as it can be used in a way that requires little or no detail from the client, and can be worked with in an emotionally distant state from the traumatic event. This model can also used to work on physical pain.
